Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) therapy does not eliminate the source of pain but it changes the way the brain perceives it. During the procedure, a small device, similar to a pacemaker is surgically placed under your skin. It delivers electrical pulses to the spinal cord and helps people better manage their pain. SSC Therapy is effective in the treatment and management of chronic pain in the back, leg or arm, especially if you have not found relief with other therapies.

Who Is The Right Candidate?

Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) therapy is highly advisable to patients if:

1. Other conservative therapies have failed
2. Reluctant to undergo surgery
3. No comorbidities or medical conditions that would stop you from undergoing implantation
4. Had a successful SCS trial

SCS Therapy is effective in the management of chronic pain caused by:

Sciatic or arm pain caused by arthritis, spinal stenosis, or by nerve damage.

1. Pain in the legs or feet caused due to Diabetic Neuropathy
2. Failed back surgery syndrome
3. Complex regional pain syndrome typically in the foot or hand Pain associated with conditions such as angina, peripheral vascular disease, multiple sclerosis, or spinal cord injury.

Complications

Some of the specific complications related to SCS may include:

1. Undesirable changes in stimulation
2. Battery failure and/or battery leakage
3. Cerebrospinal fluid leak
4. Pain at the stimulator site
5. Allergic response to implant materials
